Revolutionary Rotary Power at Innovate 2016

Lichfield, Staffordshire

For the first time in an exciting new change to the UK’s biggest multi-sector innovation event, Innovate 2016 had a change of location.  The North is proud of having a strong innovative history and after eight years of being held in London, Innovate 2016 moved to the spectacular Manchester Central Convention Complex.

Held on 2 and 3 November, the varied and inspirational speakers at the event ranged from the Rt Hon Greg Clark MP (Secretary of State for the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy), to proud Northerner and globally-celebrated designer Wayne Hemmingway.

Innovate 2016 is co-hosted by DTI (Department for International Trade) and showcases trailblazing British innovators at the very cutting-edge in their field.  This year the theme of the programme was, The Future of Innovation, The Emerging Technologies Revolutionising Innovation and How to… Go International.  Leading companies and renowned experts shared their vision and originality to help to “grow industry in the UK and deliver tomorrow’s solutions today”.

Advanced Innovative Engineering (UK) Ltd was proud to be part of this inspiring event and to exhibit at the Innovation Showcase.  It is thanks to Innovate UK funding that AIE were able to demonstrate the development of the AIE 650S compact rotary engine.  The new-concept from AIE integrates a modern rotary engine with patented cooling technology.  The Self-Pressurising-Air Rotor Cooling System (SPARCS) technology revolutionises rotary engines, giving no wet oil loss – resulting in a cleaner, more efficient and reliable rotary engine.

The clean-sheet design approach has resulted in a portfolio of rotary engines from a 5hp-40S, a 40hp-225CS and a 120hp-650CS.  Each design is smaller in size than a standard rotary engine but with market-leading power-to-weight ratios and a longer lifespan, making the cutting-edge engines perfect for aerial and marine use as well as within the primary and hybrid automotive industries.

The lower total-cost-of-ownership and superior performance and efficiency of AIE SPARCS cooled rotary motors demonstrates that they really are the ‘Future of Innovation’, and embrace the DTI and Innovate UK motto of ‘Going Global’ at their core.
